Official rules and conditions of MZSS for the rescuer selection process.

Article 1

Definitions

Candidate
A person who has passed the initial selection and has been officially invited to attend training organised by MZSS.
Rescuer
A person who has passed the final exam before the three-member committee and received official "MZSS Rescuer" status.
Committee
A three-member body appointed by MZSS that conducts examinations and issues official rescuer status.
Article 2

Application conditions

The right to apply for rescuer training is held by persons who meet the following conditions:

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Citizenship of the Republic of North Macedonia
  • Willingness for volunteer work at ski resorts
  • Good physical and psychological condition
Article 3

Deadlines & Application

The recruitment period will be announced in due time. After the deadline, applications are closed and no further applications are accepted.

After the recruitment closes, the MZSS Training Committee reviews all applications and conducts selection. Candidates are informed by email.

Article 8

Patroller Categories

MZSS members are divided into 6 categories based on experience, training and authorisations. Click on a category for more information.

Intern Ski Patroler is the entry level for all new members. At this stage the person familiarises themselves with the basic principles, safety standards, equipment, communication protocols and field rules.

Allowed
  • Presence in the field as an observer
  • Assisting with simple tasks under supervision
  • Participation in basic exercises and simulations
Not allowed
  • Operating the akja sled
  • Participating in evacuations
  • Intervening with injured persons
  • Working independently

Junior Ski Patroler is the first operational level. Present in real tasks, learns to move safely on ski slopes and undertakes simple interventions under supervision.

Allowed
  • Independent movement on ski slopes
  • Assisting in low-complexity interventions
  • Participation in locating injured persons
  • Equipment preparation
Not allowed
  • Descending injured person with akja sled
  • Independent intervention with injured persons
  • Participation in cable car evacuation

Pre Ski Patroler is a key transition between Junior and the fully operational Ski Patroler. Has considerable field confidence and can carry out some tasks independently.

Allowed
  • Independent interventions on easy and medium slopes
  • Regular patrol without direct supervision
  • Participation in evacuations as assistant
  • Akja sled on easy/medium slopes
Not allowed
  • Leading official training
  • Shift coordinator
  • Carrying SOS phone as responsible person

Ski Patroler is the fully operational and most critical level. Responds to interventions, implements procedures, communicates with guests and maintains slope safety.

Allowed
  • Akja sled on all slope types with injured person
  • Cable car evacuation
  • Terrain risk assessment
  • Carrying SOS phone
  • Training and assessment of Intern patrollers
Not allowed
  • Major administrative decisions
  • Chief instructor (that is Senior)

Senior Ski Patroler is the highest operational rank — a patroller with high expertise, stability and extensive experience who can lead teams and make decisions under pressure.

Allowed
  • Leads interventions of all types
  • Organises and conducts cable car evacuations
  • Shift coordinator
  • Training of Intern, Junior and Pre
Restrictions
  • Organisational policy decisions rest with management

Doctor Ski Patroler is a specialised category reserved only for medical professionals with appropriate education and licence, who also possess basic field knowledge. A parallel specialised role, not a rank above Senior.

  • Medical assessment of injuries
  • Decision-making on transport and risk
  • Coordination with emergency services
  • Medical part of training sessions
Not allowed
  • Shift coordinator
  • Leading entire rescue operations
